The Juris Doctor program at Concord is a four-year, part-time program. Students work through the academic program much like they would if they were enrolled in a bricks-and-mortar law school. At the start of the first year, students are assigned to a section. They meet regularly as a group in their synchronous classes. They get together outside of class --online, on the telephone, and, on occasion, students arrange to meet face to face. When the section completes the year, students tell us they know more about each other and have developed closer relationships than often resulted from their experiences in a traditional classroom environment.
Concord technology enables students to approach their coursework on a typical law school schedule. Courses are not completed one subject at a time in isolation. Students balance the demands of the four or five courses in which they are enrolled. Consequently, they benefit from the integrated learning that takes place as they build knowledge and skills as progress is made through the curriculum.
Concord’s Juris Doctor program is grounded in the core bar courses, with the first two years devoted entirely to required courses. Terms are one year long and students must successfully complete a total of 92 units, at least 22 to 24 units of coursework in 48 to 52 consecutive weeks each of the four years. Graduates of the JD program will have met the legal education requirement of the Committee of Bar Examiners, State Bar of California, and may apply for admission to the State Bar of California.
