Academic Support Program

The Academic Support Program is administered by the Dean of Students, Dr. Martha Siegel, in close cooperation with the law faculty and administration. Students who need assistance with their substantive work are encouraged by their professor or Law Advisor to participate in this program.

"Start on Skills" (SOS) is the initial step in Concord’s commitment to helping students do their best academically and achieve their career goals. SOS is a self-executing, study group-based set of materials and instructions that teach students basic analytical strategies and organizational principles for essay writing.

"Concord Essay Outreach" (CEO) begins at midterm in the first year and provides a series of practice essay assignments. Additionally, this enrichment program offers exercises in fact identification and issue spotting. All of this is designed to help ensure student success. For the CEO program, Concord employs a team of Senior Writing Specialists, with experience in tutoring and mentoring law students, whose sole job is to work with students on skills training.

"Concord First" (CF) is the last step in the first-year Academic Support Program and is designed specifically to assist students preparing for the First-Year Law Students Exam (FYLSE,) the regulatory exam required by the State Bar of California.
